Europe's largest waterfall - just 40 minutes away from Zurich!

Almost a year living in Zurich and I didn't know this gem was just around the corner! A visit to these waterfalls is a great day trip idea from Zurich. We left Zurich at around 11:30 am and where back at 17:00. Even on a half day of free time you can manage to go.

Europe's largest waterfall - rheinfalls

You can reach the Rhine Falls by train via the ´'Schloss Laufen' or 'Neuhausen Rheinfall' stations and then walk 5 minutes to reach them, Another way to get there, which is what we did is taking a direct 40 minute train from Zurich HB to Schaffhausen. We wanted to explore this beautiful mediaeval town before walking to the waterfalls.

We walked around the town to explore the Renaissance era buildings decorated with exterior frescos and sculptures before taking a a 40 minute walk along the Rhine river to reach the majestic waterfalls.

The Rhinefalls are truly impressive. There are well-marked paths and viewing platforms for excellent views. You can also take a boat tour for a closer look. The price of getting to the viewing platform is 5 CHF and the boats have different pricing depending on the length of the tour you want to take.
